Jamaica’s Digicel doubles IPTV subs in two months

Digicel continues to grow its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services across the Caribbean, announcing it has reached the 20,000 IPTV subs mark in Jamaica.

It is less than two months since the recently launched convergent service – which combines pay-TV, broadband and fixed phone - passed the 10,000 subs mark. The milestone also comes shortly after the company announced its offer to buy TRES Networks, the main FTTH operator in Curaçao.

“Digicel Play has seen record-breaking growth since we launched in Kingston,” said John Suranyi, CEO for Digicel Play, Caribbean and Central America. “This is a clear indicator that customers want a better home entertainment experience, and that is exactly what we are delivering to Jamaican homes using the fastest fibre in the region.”

As it expands its fibre footprint across the region, Digicel has also secured several deals with content providers and programmers, including BBC, NBCUniversal and Euronews.

“Even as we’re celebrating this milestone, we have thousands of customers in the process of being connected in Kingston and Portmore; our team is working around the clock to get everyone connected to our service as soon as possible,” added Suranyi.
