BTC sets date for IPTV launch in Bahamas

Fixed line incumbent the Bahamas Telecommunication Company (BTC) has unveiled plans to launch its long-delayed IPTV service on 10 December, initially in Bimini before expanding to Inagua and the rest of the country. Tribune 242 cites CEO Leon Williams as saying that the service would also be offered at a lower price than the equivalent from its main rival, Cable Bahamas Ltd (CBL). According to Mr Williams, BTC’s IPTV service will include an option for customers to watch TV on their mobile handsets. The telco has allocated funds of USD75 million for investment in the current fiscal year, including spending on the development of TV services and infrastructure improvements, with BTC set to launch fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband services in the near future.
