Huawei captures more share in service provider VoIP and IMS market

Huawei continues to lead the service provider VoIP and IMS market, capturing the revenue market share lead again in Q3 2015, according to IHS Infonetics Service Provider VoIP and IMS Equipment and Subscribers report.

Three telecom network vendors Huawei, Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent increased their revenue in the global service provider VoIP and IMS market. Genband has disappeared from the top 5 list. Nokia Networks, which will be buying Alcatel-Lucent, has almost maintained its share and improved its position to four in Q3 2015 from five in Q3 2014. Oracle is part of the top 5 list for the service provider VoIP and IMS market, according to IHS.

The service provider voice over IP (VoIP) and IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) equipment market rose 34 percent to $1.4 billion in the third quarter of 2015, said IHS.

“Strong sales from Asia Pacific, largely due to VoLTE (voice over LTE) spending in China, resulted in healthy growth for the carrier VoIP and IMS market in the third quarter. We knew spending related to VoLTE in China would start occurring in late 2015 and early 2016, and the impact has started to intensify,” said Diane Myers, research director for VoIP, UC and IMS at IHS.

Telecom network operators in EMEA have launched or are getting ready to launch VoLTE in the next 12 months.
With mobile operators ramping for VoLTE and VoWiFi (voice over WiFi), combined with core wireline network spending, the market continues to show strong returns.

Most product segments — except softswitches and HSS (home subscriber server) — notched revenue growth in Q3. IMS contributed 65 percent of worldwide VoIP and IMS revenue in Q3.
