Du eyeing partnerships in TV space outside UAE

Du is open to business in the TV space outside the UAE, chief executive officer Othman Sultan told Gulf News.

The telecom operator recently signed a deal with Omantel to offer its Internet Protocol television (IPTV) service in the country through du’s IPTV platform and expand its investment and reach.

IPTV is a system through which TV services are delivered over internet cable.

“We are now a regional ICT player, having diversified from pure telecommunications and we’re expanding our offerings for regional incumbents,” said Osman Sultan, chief executive officer of du .

“We are also looking at other areas of collaboration that [are] healthy and leverage on each other’s experiences. We are open to discussions with other CEOs of telecom operators in the region,” he said.

Sultan said expanding outside the UAE means that the operator will not offer services to customers directly but through partnerships with other carrier partners. He said that is allowing the company to move outside of the licence business to increase revenues.

“We believe that we have a competitive edge in IPTV business and that is opening an area of collaboration. We are absolutely open to business in the IPTV space,” he added.
