Ericsson wins 4G LTE deals from Indonesia’s Indosat and Telkomsel

Ericsson has announced two major infrastructure contract wins in Indonesia, under which it will roll out a 4G LTE network for Indosat in Greater Jakarta and provide a full radio network transformation for Telkomsel in the region of Kalimantan.

Firstly, Ericsson confirmed it has won a deal to provide Indosat with a more energy-efficient and cost-effective network across the country. The agreement covers 2G, 3G and 4G network technology, including implementation services and network performance optimisation, with the vendor noting that the solution will work ‘seamlessly with the existing 2G and 3G networks already supplied by Ericsson’. Equipment wise, the gear maker is supplying its Ericsson RBS 6000 base station solution. Alexander Rusli, CEO and President Director of Indosat, said: ‘This technology means faster speeds, more responsive applications, greater efficiency and more stable connections … better positioning us to serve our country’s need for a strong data network.’

Separately, Telkomsel has tapped Ericsson to transform its existing GSM and W-CDMA/HSPA mobile network to improve its subscribers’ experience and prepare for 4G LTE in Indonesia’s Kalimantan region. Again, Ericsson’s multi-standard RBS 6000 platform will be utilised to complete the radio network transformation to meet rapidly increasing data demands, while also optimising the cellco’s networks in the fast growing area of Kalimantan. The transformation project also includes the introduction of Ericsson’s RBS 6320, a low-cost, main remote enclosure product, developed for tropical climates.
