BT TV ramps up in first half of fiscal 2015

For the second quarter to 30 September 2015, the telco's TV division added 106,000 new subscribers to leave its customer base on a total of 1.3 million, its best ever quarter. To put the spike into context, the previous four quarters had seen gains of 60,000, 52,000, 45,000 and 38,000 respectively.

Driving the subs surge, said BT TV, were the 'improvements' that it had made to its bouquet, in particular the launch of BT Sport Europe — which now offers Champions League and well as Premier League football — and its new AMC TV channel which is the exclusive home of new series such as the hugely popular Fear the Walking Dead, the companion series to global hit The Walking Dead.

BT TV offers in total 182 channels, and further activity in the quarter saw a deal to make UKTV's full portfolio of channels available to BT customers for the very first time, with Eden, Good Food and Home joining the seven UKTV channels already on BT TV. It also premiered Europe's very first live sports Ultra HD channel along with the required 4KTV-compatible set-top box.
