Pakistan’s cellcos signed up 18.04 million 3G and 4G subscribers by end-September 2015 according to sector regulator the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). Telenor continues to lead in the 3G space, with 5.49 million users, closely followed by Mobilink, which represented 4.91 million 3G customers. Similarly, third-placed Zong has kept just ahead of incumbent Ufone, with 3.77 million 3G users compared to the latter’s 3.52 million. In the 4G sector, meanwhile, Zong retained its lead over its sole rival Warid, having pulled ahead in July 2015. At end-September 2015 Zong’s 4G user base totalled 201,564 – up from 105,128 three months earlier – whilst Warid represented 156,827 LTE customers, increasing from 106,211 at end-June 2015.
