Tokyo-based NEC Corporation has been contracted to provide its iPASOLINK iX all-outdoor, ultra-compact microwave radio systems to Turkcell of Turkey, ahead of the latter’s planned LTE launch. According to a vendor press release, the system will form part of the cellco’s 4G network infrastructure. In the same press release, Atac Tansug, fixed network director of Turkcell, confirmed that the operator’s LTE network will launch on 1 April 2016.
As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, Turkcell secured 4G-suitable frequencies in the government multi-band spectrum auction held on 26 August this year. The cellco paid EUR372.9 million (USD424.0 million) for the ‘A3’ spectrum package.
