Norwegian-owned cellco Telenor Myanmar is planning to increase its focus on data services, having underestimated the level of demand in its first full year of operation, the Myanmar Times writes. Telenor Myanmar Chief Executive Petter Furberg was quoted as saying that the company’s original strategy was that 3G services would ‘mainly be a city thing. We realised data demand was significantly higher… [and have implemented] the strategy gradually from the beginning of this year to deploy 3G on absolutely all our towers.’ More than half of the operator’s customers are active data users, and over two-thirds use smartphones.
