Korea's KT seals IPTV content deal with Sony, ABC

South Korean telco KT will add a range of content from Sony Pictures Television (SPT) and ABC to its IPTV service, following a deal with the Hollywood studios.

The agreement provides KT with a library of 1,800 American TV series, in addition to new content SPT and ABC produce over the next three years, reports The Korea Times.

"One of the key features of the partnership is that KT's Internet TV customers can enjoy watching high quality American TV series with Korean translation service on the bottom of a screen," said Lee Jeong-woo, head of public relations, KT.

KT will air major TV shows just two days after their US debut, he told the newspaper.

"Throughout the long-term partnership with the Hollywood studios, KT could improve competitiveness in its media content business. KT will work to create new patterns of consumption in content by consumers in Korea," Lee said.

The telecommunications company is also reportedly in discussions to offer Netflix via its IPTV platform when the US subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) giant launches its Korean service in January 2016.
