TRA Bahrain holds telecom service quality measurement reporting workshop with licensees

Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) Bahrain held a Workshop with the Licensees on Sunday, the 20th of September,2015 entitled “Service Quality Measurement Reporting”, and was attended by delegates from telecommunications operators in Bahrain at TRA headquarters in the Seef District.

TRA Director of Technical & Operations, Eng. Mohammed Alnoaimi commented on the workshop, stating that “In line with the TRA’s strategy to continually improve consumer quality of experience, the TRA monitors and reports the telecommunications service quality provided by operators in the Kingdom; the TRA has deployed stationary probes in some major cities of the kingdom to test the Quality of Service offered by fixed and mobile service providers.”

Eng. Alnoaimi further explained that “The probes are automated to regularly generate tests to measure internationally recognized Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and to be published to the general public. The TRA will, through its plan aiming at developing this platform, introduce more KPIs which are currently being considered by the TRA to publish for consumer empowerment in choosing telecommunications services suiting their needs.”

This new measurement platform has been acquired from Ascom Solutions, and designed specifically based on ITU network testing standards and global best practices with the aim of benchmarking telecoms quality of service which operators offer to consumers in the Kingdom of Bahrain from both business and residential markets. This will enable the TRA to continue publishing Quality of Service Analysis reports with enhancements to further empower consumer knowledge when choosing services.

TRA is also working on deploying an online portal to provide consumers with a simplified and updated information about the measurements to allow users of telecommunications services to identify the quality of services provided by the service providers. The TRA will, at a later stage, publish the portal’s address to consumers on its website.
