Algeria's Minister of Post and Information and Communication Technologies Houda Iman Feraoun said that the sector projects including those related to the expansion of fiber optic network will be maintained despite lower oil prices.
Speaking to the channel I of the National Radio, the minister said that the projects, already planned by the sector of Post and ICTs "will be maintained," explaining that the budget for these projects "was released well before the drop in oil prices."
As for the future projects, the minister said that the "expenses will rationalized," stressing that "reflection is underway to redefine priorities."
The fiber optic network expansion projects across the country are not "concerned by the rationalization of expenditure," the Minister said, adding that they are "priorities of the previous and current five-year plans."
Regarding the recurring cuts of the Internet, Feraoun explained these failures by the "introduction of broadband technology, lack of qualified personnel, weather condition and theft of copper cables."
She said that the use of optical fiber would those cuts, adding that the operation will last up to 2016.
Regarding the 4G of the fixed telephony, Feraoun announced that the modems will be available from next September at Algeria Telecom.
