Orange is to offer 4G services in some Spanish cities from the 8 July 2013.
Following Vodafone, which was the first to offer LTE connections in the country, Orange has now published its strategy to compete in this field. Only Movistar has not revealed its rate plans yet, although it's expected to start offering 4G by the end of the month.
During the first week of July, Orange LTE will be available in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Málaga, Sevilla and Murcia, with prices starting at €23.
According to the company, Zaragoza, Bilbao, La Coruña, Palma de Mallorca, Las Palmas, Alicante, Córdoba, Valladolid and Vigo will also be covered before the end of the year. Orange points to 2014, when the radioelectric spectrum is expected to have more slots for 4G networks, as the year for expansion throughout the country.
Vodafone's LTE has been operating in Spain's most populated cities since the end of May, and Yoigo has also announced its rate plans and its intention to start offering 4G from 18 July.
Víctor Calvo-Sotelo, Spain's Secretary of State for Telecommunications, said he was pleased about the settling down of the 4G network and defended the new telecom law which "leaves more space for the expansion of new mobile technologies".
