Jordan surpasses 1.6 million digital identities with Sanad app

Jordan has exceeded 1.6 million activated digital identities through the Sanad app, according to data from the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship reported by Jordan News. Sanad offers a unified digital ID entry point for accessing government services and is integrated with IrisGuard biometrics for added security.

To activate the digital ID, users must either visit a Sanad office in person to capture their iris biometrics or complete the process remotely through a supported bank app using their bank account. Services are then accessed via the app using a username and password, with iris biometrics utilized during onboarding and at ATMs nationwide.

As part of its Economic Modernization Vision 2024, Jordan has digitalized 64 percent of public services, totaling 1,530 services. The government recently announced a trial for postponing military service, in collaboration with the Jordanian Armed Forces. Jordan aims to reach 3.5 million activated digital identities this year and fully digitalize all government services.

With approximately 7 million adults in the country, Jordan’s digital identity program is progressing steadily, though a February World Bank report noted that the country’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) still requires improvements in security, trustworthiness, and user-centered design.
