giffgaff launches full fiber broadband trial on nexfibre network

Budget mobile operator giffgaff is launching a new broadband trial offering speeds of 500Mbps.

giffgaff is using fibre technology provided by Liberty Global venture nexfibre. It becomes nexfibre’s second wholesale customer, and the first to use Virgin Media O2’s wholesale capabilities, after Virgin Media itself.

The company is offering the service to an initial 500 triallists who will get 500Mbps broadband for just £10 a month for a year.

These trialists will join the small number of early trialists already testing giffgaff’s broadband offering.

Ash Schofield, CEO of giffgaff, adds “Broadband is a natural evolution for us as a connectivity brand. We know people are frustrated with their current broadband offering so we’re committed to bringing together the best tech, with the experience of the people that matter most – our customers – to build better broadband.”

Trialists will also receive £100 for their trouble.

In January, nexfibre, the joint venture between InfraVia Capital Partners, Liberty Global and Telefónica, reached its first two million premises after two years of operation.
