Morocco sets ambitious digital transformation goals to boost economy and innovation

Morocco is aiming for a 10% increase in GDP by 2030 through strategic investments in emerging technologies under its Digital Morocco 2030 initiative. The government plans to invest over 11 billion dirhams ($1.1 billion) by 2026 to drive digital transformation, create more than 240,000 jobs, and train 100,000 young people annually in digital skills.

A key component of this roadmap is digitizing government services, with the creation of a Unified Administrative Services Portal. The long-term goal is to place Morocco among the world’s top 50 tech nations. Blockchain technology is central to this vision, with trials already underway in sectors like healthcare and finance to enhance transparency and efficiency in public services.

Despite an ongoing ban on digital assets, Morocco has seen a significant rise in ownership, with over six million citizens—representing more than 15% of the population—holding digital assets. Additionally, the country is rapidly expanding its use of artificial intelligence (AI), introducing it into the judiciary, launching an AI-powered university learning system, and training over 1,000 small- and medium-sized businesses in AI adoption through partnerships with LinkedIn and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Morocco’s focus on emerging technologies, including AI and blockchain, positions the country as a leader in digital innovation across Africa and beyond.
