Malaysian telco U Mobile announced that it has signed on EdgePoint Infrastructure as a preferred 5G in-building (IBC) infrastructure partner for the rollout of its wholesale 5G network.
Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), both parties will work closely to deploy 5G IBC infrastructure as a quick and cost-effective competitive option, with a focus on developing and deploying solutions tailored to each site, enhancing network performance and user experience.
U Mobile and EdgePoint will also collaborate on connectivity enhancement solutions that result in faster data speeds and ultra-low latency. The plan also calls for integrating technologies and applications like AI, smart cities and autonomous systems into the rollout, as well as looking for opportunities for future expansion of 5G IBC solutions.
U Mobile CTO Woon Ooi Yuen said the collaboration with EdgePoint will aim to accelerate its 5G network rollout, which was officially greenlighted by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) at the end of March.
“As Malaysia’s next-gen 5G network provider, we are committed to delivering high-quality, reliable and ultra-fast 5G services to consumers and businesses, be it indoor or outdoor, especially in high-traffic areas and commercial centres, so that all Malaysians may thrive in a digital economy,” Yuen said in a statement. “Our partnership with EdgePoint also underscores our commitment to accelerate 5G adoption and innovation, by ensuring reliable connectivity that will support AI-driven automation, IoT-enabled buildings and more.”
