NTT Data announced that its global cellular connectivity subsidiary Transatel has formed a partnership with Toyota Motor Corp to support the car maker’s deployment of connected vehicle services in Latin America.
Under the partnership deal, Transatel multi-network (e)SIM cards are now integrated into Toyota vehicles produced for the LATAM market. The service, powered by Transatel's Internet of Vehicles (IoV) platform, is already live for customers in Brazil and Argentina. Toyota plans to expand the service to expand to Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Peru, and Chile before the end of this year.
Transatel said the partnership will enhance Toyota's digital in-vehicle offering, including vehicle-centric applications like telematics, remote controls, vehicle status, over-the-air updates and anti-theft services, as well as driver/passenger services such as onboard Wi-Fi and infotainment via Transatel's consumer connectivity brand Ubigi.
Transatel – which manages over 120 mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) worldwide through its full-core network infrastructure – recently expanded its presence in Latin America by registering as an MVNO in Brazil and installing two regional PoPs in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
Transatel said this setup enables NTT Data's automotive partners to fully utilize 4G and 5G to provide digital services for their customers and in-vehicle connectivity that complies with local regulations.
The service is also backed by NTT Data’s partnerships with over 250 mobile operators worldwide, including TIM in Brazil and Telefonica in Argentina, to provide multi-country cellular IoT connectivity solutions for industries such as manufacturing, smart cities, mobility, energy, utilities, agriculture, and mining.
“We selected Transatel for their unique ability to address both OEM and end-customer connectivity needs with a single (e)SIM solution,” said Martin Faigelbaum, director of connected technologiesa at Toyota Latin America & Caribbean in a statement. “Their global reach and deep expertise in connected car technologies allow us to manage connectivity across an entire region with one provider, achieving significant cost efficiencies and scalability for this critical deployment.”
NTT Data said the Transatel tie-up with Toyota in Latin America follows similar IoV partnerships with Jaguar Land Rover, Stellantis, and BMW Group.
