Axiata’s telecom infrastructure unit EDOTCO Malaysia has announced the signing of a series of memoranda of understanding (MoU) with Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), U Mobile, CelcomDigi and Avealto to accelerate 5G expansion and drive telecommunication innovation in Malaysia.
EDOTCO said in a statement this multi-faceted collaboration marks a significant step towards accelerating 5G expansion and advancing next-generation telecommunication infrastructure across Malaysia, reinforcing the nation’s position at the forefront of digital transformation.
In collaboration with DNB, EDOTCO is spearheading efforts to establish Langkawi as Malaysia’s first 5G-enabled digital tourism hub.
This initiative will enhance visitor experiences, improve smart tourism infrastructure, and position Langkawi as a model for future 5Gpowered destinations.
By leveraging cutting-edge 5G technology, this project is expected to boost local economic growth, modernize tourism operations, and attract greater investments in the sector.
Additionally, EDOTCO will be one of the first network facilities providers (NFPs) to be recognized as an official and preferred 5G IBC infrastructure partner for U Mobile 5G Network rollout.
This partnership aims to accelerate the rollout of 5G in-building coverage (IBC), ensuring that urban and densely populated areas benefit from seamless, high-speed connectivity. EDOTCO will provide comprehensive one-stop solutions, including design, supply, site acquisition, commissioning, operation, and maintenance to support UMobile’s 5G IBC expansion.
This will be crucial in enhancing mobile network accessibility and reliability, particularly in commercial hubs and high-traffic areas.
EDOTCO’s partnership with CelcomDigi covers two key initiatives aimed at enhancing digital inclusion and sustainability.
The first initiative focuses on implementing Net Zero Towers, setting a new standard for eco-friendly network deployment.
By utilizing lightweight materials and energy-efficient technology, such as solar hybrids and exploring microalgae cultivation for carbon dioxide (CO2) absorption, this transformative approach aims to reducing the carbon footprint of telecom infrastructure.
In parallel, EDOTCO and CelcomDigi are committed to bridge the digital divide by deploying lightweight, low-power connectivity solutions in rural and underserved areas.
These structures are designed for quick installation and energy efficiency, ensuring indigenous communities, foreign workers and remote enterprises gain access to reliable internet connectivity.
This initiative aligns with national efforts to connect the last million unconnected population, providing them with the tools to enhance their economic participation and quality of life.
Meanwhile, EDOTCO’s collaboration with Avealto represents a bold step in exploring high-altitude connectivity solutions through a proof of concept (PoC) trial.
This innovative project seeks to unlock new frontiers in telecommunications, offering alternative network solutions that could revolutionize connectivity in remote and hard-to reach areas.
If successful, this initiative could introduce breakthrough technologies that enhance Malaysia’s network resilience and scalability.
These strategic collaborations position EDOTCO Malaysia at the forefront of digital infrastructure development, allowing the company to scale impact, share expertise, and drive innovation in alignment with national development goals outlined in the 12th Malaysia Plan and the Shared Prosperity Vision 2030.
The agreements reflect EDOTCO’s ongoing commitment to strengthening Malaysia’s digital ecosystem, supporting MNOs, businesses, and consumers in the transition towards a fully connected and sustainable future.
“By collaborating with industry leaders, we are not only accelerating the deployment of next generation 5G services but also ensuring that connectivity is inclusive, sustainable and future-proof,” said Adlan Tajudin, Group Chief Executive Officer of EDOTCO.
“As the national digital infrastructure partner, we are committed to leveraging our expertise, innovation and strategic partnerships to create transformative opportunities for businesses and consumers nationwide,
“These partnerships mark a defining moment in Malaysia’s digital transformative journey towards a connected, resilient future for all,” he added.
Established in 2012, EDOTCO is a digital connectivity infrastructure services company providing end-to-end integrated solutions in the tower services sector.
