M1, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) and SSI Solutions have entered into a strategic, non-binding MoU to drive the adoption of 5G technology in Vietnam Maritime Corporation’s (VIMC) maritime operations. This collaboration leverages M1’s proven expertise in maritime 5G solutions, VNPT’s 5G network infrastructure, which is essential for the deployment of these solutions, and SSI Solutions’ seamless integration of the technology into VIMC’s operational landscape. Together, the three parties aim to unlock new efficiencies in Vietnam’s maritime operations.
The partnership will introduce advanced 5G-powered use cases to optimise operational efficiency and enhance the digital transformation of VIMC’s ports. Drawing on M1’s success with extensive and innovative 5G projects in maritime operations and in both the public and private sectors, the initiative will explore applications such as tele-remote control of equipment, enhanced automated guided vehicle (AGV) operations and advanced surveillance systems.
In late 2022, M1 announced that it will undertake an ambitious multi-year project that aims to provide ubiquitous 5G standalone (SA) offshore coverage for the Southern coast of Singapore, including the surrounding waters of the southern islands. In collaboration with, and co-funding from MPA and IMDA, M1 is deploying a 5G SA network to trial and develop new maritime 5G use cases under the MPA Innovation Lab and IMDA’s innovation and ecosystem testbed programme.
Nguyen Nam Long, Vice President, VNPT Group
VNPT highly appreciate the strengths and experience of SSI and M1 in consulting and deploying 5G for vertical industries, especially the seaport industry, and hope that this cooperation would bring benefits to all parties and all would gain significant revenue from 5G technology.
