Qatar participates in UPU’s Council of Administration and Postal Operations Council

A Qatari delegation, led by Engineer Ahmad Abdulla AlMuslemani, President of the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), is participating in the Universal Postal Union's (UPU) Council of Administration (CA) and Postal Operations Council (POC) sessions, taking place from February 17-28, 2025, in Berne, Switzerland.

The CA sessions focus on the Development Cooperation Policy, aiming to bridge disparities in global postal infrastructure through targeted initiatives and capacity-building efforts. Meanwhile, the POC sessions strategically focus on helping postal service providers modernize and upgrade their products and services, addressing the operational, economic, and commercial aspects of the postal business.

During the CA session, Qatar co-chaired Committee 4 on Development Cooperation and Technical Assistance with Belarus, addressing critical areas such as resource mobilization, the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals compliance, disaster risk management, and strategies for bridging gaps in postal services.

Engineer Ahmad Abdulla AlMuslemani, President of CRA, stated: "Our leadership in these sessions reflects Qatar's unwavering dedication to aligning national postal policies with global standards. By driving innovation and sustainable practices, we are not only contributing to a resilient global postal network but also enhancing the efficiency and quality of postal services for the consumers in Qatar. These efforts reaffirm our commitment to solidifying Qatar's position as a leader in the evolving postal landscape in alignment with the goals of CRA Strategy and Qatar National Vision 2030."

On the sidelines of the sessions, CRA hosted an official luncheon on February 25 at the UPU headquarters, bringing together HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Swiss Confederation Mohamed bin Jaham Al Kuwari, the UPU Director General, CA board members, and participating delegations. The event served as a platform to enhance dialogue and strengthen partnerships in the global postal sector.

Qatar's postal sector achieved significant milestone in the past period, where CRA awarded the first postal license to Qatar Postal Services Company (Qatar Post) as the Public Postal Operator in January 2025. This step marked a significant milestone in the sector's regulatory journey, contributing to fostering a competitive and innovative postal environment that supports the growth of e-commerce and sustainable and diversified economy in line with CRA’s strategy and Qatar National Vision 2030.

Since joining the UPU in 1969, Qatar has actively contributed to promoting robust and inclusive postal services globally. As an influential CA member, Qatar continues to play a pivotal role in addressing key policy, regulatory, and strategic issues to advance global postal systems.
