DataVolt leases land from MODON for new AI data centre in Riyadh

Saudi digital infrastructure firm DataVolt has signed a deal with the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones (MODON) to lease land to develop an AI-ready data centre in Riyadh.

The 55,000-sqm plot in east Riyadh’s first technology park will be the site of a new sustainable data centre facility that DataVolt said will sport cutting-edge cooling systems, as well as an “advance circularity approach”. The facility will also be powered by optimized energy solutions, the company said.

DataVolt CEO Rajit Nanda said the new data centre project will be designed for advanced AI processing and will serve growing demand from hyperscalers, cloud and content providers, and enterprises in Saudi Arabia.

“The opportunity in artificial intelligence is accelerating and we are focused on both enabling AI innovation while ensuring we minimize its impact on the environment,” Nanda said in a statement. “Over many months, we have worked in collaboration with MODON to develop this project and we are proud to move forward and deliver another state-of-the-art facility.”

DataVolt said the new data centre in Riyadh is part of its US$5 billion investment in Saudi Arabia. The company also said it has developed and operated over 20GW of renewable energy assets across nine countries.

Established in 2001 to develop and supervise industrial lands and integrated infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, MODON currently oversees 39 industrial cities (including those still under development) in the country, in addition to private industrial cities and complexes.
