Alibaba Cloud announced that it has launched its second data centre in Thailand to increase its local capacity and launch an enhanced portfolio of services aimed at select verticals, with a particular focus on generative AI apps.
The company didn’t reveal details on the new data centre’s IT capacity, but said both data centres will enable Alibaba Cloud to enhance its portfolio of services to include elastic computing, storage, database, security, network products, data analytics and AI services and solutions that address vertical industry challenges in the fintech, retail, and public services sectors.
For example, Alibaba Cloud said Thai businesses in the fintech and retail sectors could use its AnalyticDB cloud-native vector engine to create enterprise-grade retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) solutions that improve customer interactions via customized large language model (LLM) apps.
This would allow companies to rapidly develop tailored chatbots and intelligent engagement tools, Alibaba Cloud said.
Meanwhile, the newly launched Alibaba Cloud Container Compute Service (ACS) promises to simplify and optimise workload deployment using Kubernetes as its interface, offering a serverless container environment that enables businesses to scale operations efficiently by minimizing the complexities associated with infrastructure management.
"With enhanced local infrastructure, we aim to empower enterprises to leverage the full potential of cloud technology, especially in generative AI applications,” said Sean Yuan, VP of international business and GM of Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, and South Pacific Region for Alibaba Cloud Intelligence.
Alibaba Cloud launched its first data center in Thailand in 2022. With the launch of the new data centre, the company now operates 86 availability zones across 28 regions globally.
