Apple TV has signed its first-ever agreement with the French production sector, committing it to investment in local and European production.
Under the agreement, Apple TV+ will invest 20% of its previous year’s net annual turnover in the development of original production.
The streamer will adhere to obligations laid out in France’s 2021 SMAD decree that covers investment quotas and media windows for all subscription-based, pay-per-view and free VOD services operating in the country.
The agreement, which doesn’t cover cinema, is in place for a period of four years.
In a statement, regulator Arcom acknowledged Apple TV+’s commitment to animation and documentaries.
It called for similar agreements to be signed, following on from those already signed by Apple, Amazon and Netflix.
A recent study by Arcom showed international broadcasters “contributed significantly” to new content production.
