According to The Verge, Comcast is launching a package that all sports lovers can purchase to have access to the latest sports news, and games. Viewers will have the opportunity to watch “over 50 news and sports channels.” In an attempt to upgrade the sports streaming industry viewers will have have access to Fox, ESPN, ABC, CBS, CNN, and many more. Not to mention that this service is available without cable according to The Verge.
The Verge also mentions that the subscription includes a subscription to Peacock, over 100 free streaming channels and 300 hours of cloud DVR storage. The goal for this bundle is to be able to fill the gap that was left by the sports streaming service Venu, which was recently discontinued due to the joint companies, Walt Disney Co., Warner Bros. Discovery and Fox Corp, wanting to focus on the “existing products and distribution channels,” according to a previous article in The Hollywood Reporter.
Comcast also allows viewers to have “enhanced 4k, and Odds Zone, which displays odds from DraftKings and FanDuel. You can also find the Sports & News TV package from the Xfinity Stream app on mobile and smart TV platforms like Apple TV and Roku,” according to The Verge.
All these features will be given to the viewer for $70 per month, with the option of adding $9.95 per month to receive the More Sports & Entertainment package, giving subscribers access to the MLB Network, NHL Network, NBA TV, Redzone and the NFL. It will be available to “both Xfinity and non-Xfinity customers,” says Debbie Frey, spokesperson for Comcast, in an interview with The Verge. Additionally, The Verge notes that a similar mass media company also has a sports streaming service like this. DirecTV launched its sports streaming service last week for $69.99. Although similar, DirecTV is only accessible in certain cities and does not provide the CBS network with its package.
