Virgin Media has expanded its gigabit broadband to 8,000 more homes and businesses in Northallerton for the first time, thanks to recent investment by nexfibre. These full-fibre broadband connections provide average top speeds of 2Gbps, 18 times faster than the local average.
This investment is part of nexfibre’s ongoing efforts to expand its full-fibre wholesale network, with the aim of delivering high-speed fibre to the home (FTTH) connections to 5 million homes across the UK by 2026. The gigabit broadband services will enable Northallerton residents to access services like Virgin Media’s Gig2 broadband, ideal for remote work, streaming UHD TV shows and films, video calling, and online gaming.
Rishi Sunak, MP for Richmond and Northallerton, welcomed the development. He emphasized that residents in Northallerton will now benefit from internet speeds up to 18 times faster than the local average. Sunak also noted the ongoing efforts to expand gigabit broadband availability even further in the area.
