BDx and APJII sign ‘landmark’ Indonesian data centre agreement

BDx, the largest data centre operator in Indonesia, has announced what it calls a landmark data centre cooperation agreement with the Association of Indonesia Internet Service Providers (APJII), saying that it will bolster the nation’s digital ecosystem.

As part of this strategic partnership, APJII is enhancing coverage of the Indonesia Internet Exchange (IIX) in Greater Jakarta by launching a new IIX node at BDx Indonesia’s CGK 3A campus in Southern Jakarta. This initiative aims to establish the campus as a digital hub for internet traffic exchange, thereby boosting the resilience and efficiency of the region's digital infrastructure.

The companies say that the presence of IIX at CGK 3A campus will provide a platform for developing a carrier-neutral interconnection ecosystem in Indonesia, addressing the high-bandwidth and low-latency demands of modern applications.

BDx Indonesia says its CGK3A campus is specifically tailored for AI inferencing and is poised to accelerate AI capabilities in the country. Establishing IIX at the AI inferencing data centre will enable optimised, direct and high-speed connectivity between the data centre and various networks, reducing latency and improving real-time data processing.

It will also enhance the responsiveness of AI models, and offer peering opportunities with other AI ecosystem partners, fostering faster data sharing and better integration.

Indonesia's internet penetration has rapidly risen to 79.5%, according to the 2024 APJII survey, fuelled by a young and tech-savvy population. E-commerce remains the dominant force in the digital economy, making up a huge portion of digital services revenue.

The country's data centre market is witnessing significant expansion; this growth is propelled by ongoing digital transformation efforts, including government initiatives like Making Indonesia 4.0, and the rising adoption of cloud computing, IoT, and AI technologies. To support this burgeoning digital economy, say BDx and APJII, a reliable digital infrastructure is a must.

Sujit Panda, COO of BDx Data Centres, says: "While BDx offers the most interconnected digital infrastructure mesh across the country with a portfolio of 59 colocation facilities and edge sites, APJII is a cornerstone of Indonesia’s Internet ecosystem. This collaboration is more than a partnership; it’s a synergy aimed at bridging the digital divide, underscoring our common commitment to strengthening Indonesia’s digital backbone.”

APJII says its membership includes over 1,000 internet service providers and more than 3,000 users, committed to enhancing the digital landscape in Indonesia. Their efforts aim to deliver high-quality internet services to the community, aligned with Indonesia's 2045 Digital Vision.
