Vodafone Germany carries out 2,200 broadband expansion works in 2024

Vodafone has optimized its landline so far this year that it has added more routes. According to the company, a total of 2,200 work has been completed and 1,000km of new fiber optic links have been routed, increasing the overall reliability and average speed of connections for more than 1 million households across the country.

According to the grid operator, more than 160,000 new cable connections have been put into operation this year. But there have also been calls for fiber optic network expansion. In the administrative districts Celle, Cologne and Pockau-Lengefeld, the fiber optic expansion will start with over 30,000 FTTH lines. Customer connections are currently in progress in Roding, Furth im Wald, Freiburg-Tuniberg, Main-Kinzig-Kreis and Enzkreis.

Some 50 billion gigabytes of data were transmitted over the Vodafone landline this year, 20 percent higher than in 2023. This is due to video conferencing in the home office, but also because of the streaming boom, fueled by services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and YouTube.

"Our fast fixed network is now better and more reliable than ever for our customers - thanks to more than 2,200 measures by our technicians over the past twelve months that have brought even more fiber optic cables and new segments onto the grid. More than one million cable customers will benefit from this. And over the coming year we want to continue improving the network quality for our customers," said Tanja Richter, Head of Network at Vodafone Deutschland.

The Group also said that grid segments that serve an especially large number of households will be subdivided by additional fiber optic nodes. This will ensure that each net segment will need to provide fewer households with fast online access. Cable households will need to bring the fiber optic closer to their customers' ports. This will make the Internet more stable, especially in times of heavy usage.
