The Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) concluded its participation in the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) hosted by Saudi Arabia, from 15 to 19 December 2024, which seeks to harness innovation and reduce risks in the digital space, promote the digital contribution in peace, development and sustainability, promote human rights and inclusiveness in the digital age, and improve digital governance of the Internet.
H.E. Dr. Mohammed Altamimi participated in a High-Level Session : From Summit of the Future to WSIS+ 20, which focused on evaluating the progress and highlighting the future of digital governance, in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS+ 20) and the implementation of the Global Digital Compact Process.
The session provided a platform for discussions on achievements, identifying gaps and developing strategies to advance global digital cooperation, as well as highlighting the need for a multilateral approach that includes governments, private sector, individuals and technical experts, to ensure that digital policies are inclusive and promote sustainable development.
Moreover, Mr. Naif Sheshah, Deputy Governor of Strategy and Digitalization Sector, participated in a workshop discussing the role of national and technical policy in shaping the global digital wellbeing, while Eng. Musaab Alammar, Internet Technologies Development Director, contributed in a session around the IPv6 MS Collaboration: A Path to Digital Inclusion in MENA.
In addition, Mr. Hesham AlHammad, Saudi Domain Name Director, explained in a session the importance of the multilingual domain names and their role in digital inclusion. Also, the Cybersecurity Operations Center Director , Eng. Afnan Alromi, presented a workshop on Balancing Acts: Encryption, Privacy, and Public Safety.
The IGF forum brought together more than 160 countries, with more than 1000 speakers from global experts and specialists, as well as more than 300 sessions and workshops to exchange expertise, success stories and the best practices on Internet policies, aiming to shape the future of the Internet and technology, and build a secure digital future for all.
