German football association DFL is making Bundesliga live content more widely available in selected international markets through an OTT offering in partnership global football media platform OneFootball.
The partnership underscores the DFL’s commitment to utilising the latest digital technology to bring German football to viewers worldwide and further grow the interest of the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2, according to DFL, adding that OneFootball provides a high-standard digital ecosystem to deliver top-tier football content to millions of fans.
Building on the debut in India in August 2024 – which offers exclusive live coverage of all Bundesliga 2 matches – the Bundesliga Pass OTT service is now extending its reach to Vietnam and South Africa. Fans in these markets can watch every Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 match live through OneFootball’s pay-per-view and Season Pass models, complementing existing local broadcast agreements.
Vietnamese fans are able to access the Bundesliga Pass since its launch last week, South African audiences will follow when the rollout begins in January 2025. Further international markets are to follow.
Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 matches will be live-streamed co-exclusively via the OneFootball platform, available on mobile and connected TV applications, as well as the website. Live matches are accompanied by short-form video content, highlights and supplementary programming from DFL’s international product portfolio.
“Our new OTT offering for international markets represents a strategic move to further enhance the visibility of Bundesliga content around the globe, providing us with more flexibility and new options in the marketing of our media rights. The media landscape and the media consumption behaviour of fans have changed – and this partnership and new offering is a key component in reaching football fans around the world,” said DFL CEO Marc Lenz.
Maurits Schön, COO of OneFootball, added: “OneFootball has been a partner of the DFL for several years now, having streamed Bundesliga matches in Brazil since the 2020-21 season. The launch of the Bundesliga Pass is a natural progression of this partnership, enabling us to expand our reach and deliver a flexible, fan-centric viewing experience to audiences internationally, starting in Vietnam, South Africa and India.”
