Liquid completes 730km fiber link to Botswana

Liquid Intelligent Technologies completed its 730km fiber network expansion from South Africa to Botswana in a move to bolster network resilience and capacity.

In a statement, the company detailed that the extension stretches from the South African village of Ramatlabama to the Botswanan village of Ramokgwebana. Liquid claimed this is the first-ever direct connection from northern Botswana along the A1 highway to link other locations such as Francistown, Mahalapye, and Palapye.

“This fibre extension project is a milestone for Botswana, strengthening the country’s economic hubs and connecting major commercial centres. The high-speed connectivity access is set to benefit urban centres and rural communities along the route and further expand our presence in Botswana and the continent through the One Africa Digital Network. It will bring additional multi-terabit capacity and resilience to the region,” said Liquid Botswana Managing Director, Odirile Tamajobe.

The fibre network also connects Botswana to other nations with fibre networks such as Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kenya, Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Sudan. Liquid said this will enable ISPs to expand their services to retail customers, indirectly benefiting household users and contributing to employment opportunities.
