The theoretical download speed on the fastest mobile Internet, that of LTE, will increase to 450 Mbps, and this is expected to happen next year.
However, only a small number of people are expected to get this upgrade and experience high speed mobile internet, as many mobile operators simply do not have enough radio spectrum.
Mobile internet speed depends on a number of different factors, but on the network it all starts with how much spectrum a mobile operator is using.
Future increases will be powered by a technology called "carrier aggregation," which allows operators to treat up to three radio channels in a frequency band as if they were one.
This month, processor maker Qualcomm and network equipment maker Ericsson have done their best to enable mobile internet speeds of up to 450Mbps, and this will be possible next year, with the launch of new products, interoperability tests and a demo with the Australian network operator, Telstra.
