World Radiocommunication Seminar to explore ITU activities on space and terrestrial communications

​​​​​​​​​The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) will explain topics ranging from how satellite and terrestrial operators file for radio frequencies to global rules for preventing harmful interference and the inner workings of the international treaty governing radiocommunication at the World Radiocommunication Seminar 2024 (WRS-24).

The plenary sessions will cover ITU's activities supporting radiocommunications from the air, sea, space and land to connect people, drive economies, support industry and contribute to our understanding of the world.

The plenary sessions will be hosted online from 2 to 3 December 2024 and are open to reporters.

Select sessions will cover:

  • The role of ITU's Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R) and Radiocommunication Bureau (BR).
  • ITU's Radio Regulations, the international treaty governing the global use of radio-frequency spectrum and associated satellite orbits.
  • The Radio Regulations Board (RRB), responsible for establishing the Rules of Procedure for implementing the Radio Regulations.
  • Preparations for the World Radiocommunication Conference 2027 (WRC-27).
  • ITU-R Study Groups that develop the technical bases for decisions taken at World Radiocommunication Conferences and that develop global standards, reports and handbooks on radiocommunications-related matters.
  • Harmful interference in space and terrestrial systems.
  • ITU systems, processes and resources for filing for frequency assignments to space-based or terrestrial radio systems.

The full event runs through 6 December. Participation in the WRS-24 Workshops from 4-6 December is restricted to the ITU Member States, ITU-R Sector Members, Associates and Academia. ​
