Minister Hafid emphasised that both Indonesia and Oman stand to benefit from closer cooperation in the digital realm, with opportunities to enhance infrastructure, drive innovation, and tackle global challenges. “In the current era of rapid technological advancement, both Oman and Indonesia have a big opportunity to cooperate more closely in advancing digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, and fostering innovation,” she stated in a press release issued by the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs.
The two nations have maintained diplomatic relations for more than four decades, and during this time, they have developed cooperation across various sectors, including political, cultural, economic, and social fields. Minister Hafid expressed that the proposed partnership in the digital sector would not only address key global challenges but also help both countries leverage technology to drive economic growth, improve governance, and enhance the quality of life for their citizens.
Minister Hafid also expressed her hope that this partnership would serve as a model for other nations, demonstrating how digital technology can be harnessed to achieve broader development goals. By working together, Indonesia and Oman can set an example for the international community on the effective use of technology for sustainable growth and shared prosperity.
In addition to her remarks on digital cooperation, Minister Hafid took the opportunity to congratulate the people of Oman on their 54th National Day. “Hopefully, this special day marks another year of prosperity, peace, and happiness for the Sultanate and its people,” she added, extending her warm wishes to Oman’s citizens during this significant occasion.
Indonesia is eager to collaborate with international partners to accelerate its digital transformation, both domestically and regionally. Through global partnerships, Indonesia aims to strengthen its digital infrastructure, foster innovation, and enhance cybersecurity, aligning these efforts with its broader goals of economic growth, improved governance, and better quality of life for its citizens.
President Prabowo Subianto’s recent overseas visits to countries like China, the U.S. and Brazil emphasise the nation’s ambition to enhance its influence in digital transformation and economic cooperation. These diplomatic engagements aim to strengthen Indonesia’s economic partnerships and foster innovation, with a focus on bridging the interests of both developing and developed nations.
Another recent example of this commitment is the visit of the U.S. Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, Marisa Lago, who led a high-level delegation to Indonesia as part of the Innovative Technologies for Urban Infrastructure Development Trade Mission. Focused on smart cities and digital infrastructure, the mission highlights the growing partnership between the two nations. It underscores the potential for collaboration in advancing Indonesia’s digital initiatives, driving economic growth, and supporting sustainable urban development.
As part of its overarching strategy, Indonesia is placing a strong emphasis on digitalisation, with the newly renamed Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) spearheading initiatives to enhance digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, and public services.
The government is equally dedicated to promoting digital inclusion, empowering youth, and ensuring equal access to technology, all in alignment with the country’s broader vision of fostering economic growth and digital prosperity.
Through these efforts, Indonesia seeks to establish itself as a leading force in the global digital economy, with a significant presence not only in Southeast Asia but worldwide.
