Sharjah Communication Technology Authority (SCTA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to join BEEAH and Khazna Data Centers in developing data centers in Sharjah, UAE.
The new collaboration will advance technological infrastructure and fuel digital transformation and telecommunication solutions in Sharah, starting with the city of Kalba.
Kalba has been set to receive a data center since 2022, when Khazna and BEEAH originally formed a joint venture, named One Data Center SPV Limited.
The JV had the goal of developing facilities in Sharjah and said, at the time, that the data centers would operate under the Khazna brand.
One of its projects included a 9MW data center. The SCTA will now join this project, which is expected to become Sharjah’s largest data center.
“The MoU between the SCTA and the joint venture of BEEAH and Khazna marks a pivotal milestone for both SCTA and the Government of Sharjah,” said Rashid Ali Al Ali, executive director of SCTA.
“Together, I am confident that we can create the future-ready digital infrastructure that is needed to fully leverage technologies such as AI and Blockchain while prioritizing sustainability and having a positive impact on digital transformation initiatives in Sharjah and the wider region.”
The trio said they are currently exploring waste-to-energy as a power source, incorporating greywater recycling systems, and integrating technologies to minimize energy as part of its sustainability initiatives.
The SCTA is entirely government-owned and is dedicated to advancing digital infrastructure and data center ecosystems in the Emirate of Sharjah.
Founded in 2007, BEEAH Group began as a Sharjah-based public-private partnership company focused on environmental and waste management, before expanding. BEEAH operates across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.
Emirati data center operator Khazna was formed in 2012 when Etisalat Group and G41 combined their data center portfolios. The company operates nine data centers, with six more under construction.
