Gekås in Ullared, Sweden's largest low-price shopping destination, is taking further steps in its digital journey through a collaboration with Tele2. Thanks to a newly built 5G network and coverage amplifier, Gekås is strengthening its position as a future-proof department store with an infrastructure adapted to the needs of the modern consumer both inside and outside the department store.
Tele2's technology equips Gekås to offer an even better experience for its customers. Tele2 has installed powerful coverage amplifiers that provide stable mobile connection both indoors and outdoors. Tele2's efforts mean that both visitors and employees get a fast and stable connection, even during periods of high load. This is especially important during periods of full pressure in the department store as well as at larger events, with artists such as Pernilla Wahlgren and Lasse Stefanz.
Later this autumn, 5G+ will be activated on the 3.6 GHz band in central Ullared, giving residents of the town faster internet with speeds between 200 and 800 Mbit/s, which is perfect for data-intensive services such as live streaming and video calls during the shopping stay or the event. 5G+ provides speeds over 500 Mbit/second and is built on the higher frequency bands. Over 70% of Tele2's 5G coverage is 5G+. The expansion of 5G+ is carried out by Net4Mobility, a joint company between Tele2 and Telenor.
Patrik Petersson, IT Manager, Gekås
Gekås has always prioritized customer benefit and cost efficiency with the main focus on offering bargains and the lowest prices, but we have now taken great strides in digitization. Together with Tele2, we have created a stable digital infrastructure that enables us to improve the experience for our customers and employees. Everything from using cloud services to ensuring mobile coverage throughout the department store and hotel area.
Elin Oveus, Network Manager, Tele2
With 5G+, we can handle huge amounts of data traffic without sacrificing quality, which is crucial when thousands of people are on site at the same time. We currently cover over 85 percent of the population with 5G, most of which is with fast 5G+.
