Grameenphone and Ericsson to collaborate on AI and automation in Bangladesh

In a significant development, Ericsson has announced a collaboration with Grameenphone, Bangladesh’s largest mobile telecommunications operator, to drive innovation in artificial intelligence (AI) and automation. The two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a framework for cooperation focused on innovation, growth, and the deployment of advanced AI and automation solutions through technology trials, workshops, and pilot projects.

This partnership will also involve external collaborations with industry partners, regulators, and government bodies to foster sustainable innovation within Bangladesh’s telecom sector. The MoU was signed during the Innovate Asia 2024 event, held from November 5-7 in Bangkok, and aims to strengthen the partnership that began between Grameenphone and Ericsson in 1998.

The initiative aligns with the broader digital transformation objectives of Bangladesh’s telecommunications landscape. As the country adopts a digital-first approach, Ericsson emphasizes the increasing importance of robust and efficient telecommunications infrastructure.

This announcement comes during a busy week for Ericsson, which also unveiled a full-stack digital monetization platform in collaboration with Indonesian operator Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison and completed the expansion and modernization of MTN Rwanda’s network in Kigali, preparing it for future 5G rollouts.
