Bharti Airtel’s data centre arm Nxtra says it is deploying AI in its data centres to improve operations and power consumption, and also claims to be the first data centre operator in India to do so.
In a statement on Wednesday, Nxtra said it is already leveraging the SmartSense platform from sustainability tech company Ecolibrium in its data centre in Chennai to identify ways to save costs and improve efficiency via predictive maintenance, streamlined automation of operations and optimised capex utilisation.
Ecolibrium decribes SmartSense as an AI-powered insights and recommendations platform that overlays on existing operations management systems and converts data into actionable insights on a unified dashboard, with the specific aim of enabling data centres to operate more sustainably by reducing energy and maintenance costs and improving equipment uptime.
Nxtra says that the SmartSense platform will enable it to increase asset life 10% through real time performance analytics to identify early signs of deterioration and provide corrective recommendations.
Nxtra also aims to achieve a 10% reduction in non-IT power consumption through early identification of deviations and energy loss in each piece of equipment, as well as a 15% increase in equipment performance and a 25% improvement in productivity.
Having put the platform through its paces in the Chennai data centre, Nxtra said it is now deploying it across all its core data centres.
Nxtra CEO Ashish Arora said in a statement that the partnership with Ecolibrium “will advance our energy efficiency and overall performance.”
