Hrvatski Telekom moves to energy-efficient 5G with complete shutdown of 3G network

Hrvatski Telekom is continuing to shut down its 3G network in Croatia, thereby accelerating the transition to more energy-efficient 4G and 5G technologies, which is in line with HT's sustainable business strategy. After the successful shutdown of the 3G network in the area of Osijek and Zagreb, in the period from November 4 to 15, the 3G network will be shut down in the area of Dubrovnik, Makarska, Pula, Rijeka, Split, Šibenik and Zadar, i.e. in parts of Dubrovnik-Neretva, Istria, Primorje-Gorski Kotar, Split-Dalmatia, Šibenik-Knin and Zadar counties.

By freeing up frequency resources and capacity, 4G and 5G technologies are further improved, which enables users to use the most advanced telecommunications services, as well as a superior user experience. Additionally, focusing on faster and more advanced mobile technologies and services creates opportunities for further innovation and improved connectivity, which positively impacts social and economic development.

For users who use 2G or 3G devices, HT ensures the continuation of the use of call services and SMS messages via 2G technology, and the use of data traffic in accordance with the capabilities of 2G technology. However, in order to achieve a significantly better mobile Internet experience, users are recommended to replace their devices with new 4G and/or 5G models. All users who use newer technology devices and who have access to 4G and/or 5G technology, and who have an older technology SIM card, can exchange their SIM card free of charge at any time at Hrvatski Telekom sales points.

Hrvatski Telekom will inform its users regularly and in a timely manner about the implementation method and the dynamics of the 3G technology shutdown procedure through announcements on its website. The complete completion of the 3G network shutdown project is expected at the beginning of next year, and more detailed information about the 3G network going down in history, as well as answers to the most common questions of users, can be found at Shutting down the 3G network.
