Saudi Arabia, represented by the Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST), participated with a delegation led by H.E. Dr. Mohammed Altamimi, the Governor of CST, in the ITU’S 2024 World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA-24), held in New Delhi, India. With the presence of the Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi, high level officials and policymakers in the ITU’s Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) from specialized organization and private sector across the world.
On the sidelines of the WTSA, H.E. Altamimi also participated in the Global Standards Symposium (GSS) in a panel discussion titled “Catalyzing Change: Industry & Ministerial Leaders Crafting the Future of Innovation“, to highlight the inspiring role of Saudi Arabia’s leadership in promoting collaboration among regulators in the ICT fields under the Saudi Vision 2030. Emphasizing on Saudi Arabia’s efforts to provide a collaborative regulatory environment for vital sectors, which aimed at enhancing investment in the digital economy and advancing the transformation into a digital society.
CST continues the Kingdom's efforts in the ITU by leading the Arab group team to prepare for the WTSA-24; represented by Eng. Abdullah AlMubadal, Deputy Governor of Telecom Sector at CST. This role includes leading prominent topics in the assembly and chairing a number of leadership positions in the (ITU-T) to establish international technical standards that provide a common foundation for innovation and development across various fields.
It is worth noting that the ITU, a United Nations specialized agency for information and communication technologies, organizes the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) every four years to approve the strategy for the upcoming period, appoint chairs and vice-chairs of study groups, and establish necessary decisions for the global telecommunications standardization sector (ITU-T). The sector includes 194 countries, over 260 private sector members and more than 160 research and academic organizations.
