Jazz to completely phase out 3G services by November

In a significant move for Pakistan’s digital landscape, Jazz is set to become the first telecom operator in the country to completely phase out its 3G services by November 2024.

The transition is part of the company’s broader “4G for All” initiative aimed at expanding high-speed mobile broadband nationwide.

The company’s decision to retire its 3G network will allow for the repurposing of spectrum, which will enhance 4G coverage, speed, and overall capacity.

According to the company, this shift strengthens Jazz’s service offerings besides supporting the country’s broader goals for digital transformation and economic growth through improved communication infrastructure.

Aamir Ibrahim, CEO of Jazz, highlighted the significance of the move, saying, “Sunsetting 3G underscores our commitment to delivering the best-in-class digital experience. Our ‘4G for All’ vision is key to empowering individuals and businesses across Pakistan in a digitally connected world.”

He also emphasised that this transition aligns with Jazz’s evolution towards becoming a Service Co, focusing on digital solutions that improve access to healthcare, education, and financial services.

Currently, Jazz serves 71 million cellular users and 51 million mobile broadband customers, making it the largest telecom operator in Pakistan.

The switch to an exclusively 4G-enabled network is expected to not only improve mobile internet speeds and call quality but also meet the changing needs of consumers with innovative digital solutions.
