Pakistan all set for first satellite internet services as ‘PAKSAT’ becomes operational

At the ‘PAKSAT-MM1 Satellite Application Conference’, Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, reiterated the government’s dedication to using space technology to foster national growth. She celebrated the operationalization of the PAKSAT-MM1 satellite, noting its potential to transform Pakistan’s communication infrastructure by extending internet connectivity to remote areas and enhancing the country’s digital connectivity.

Khawaja highlighted the significant improvement in Pakistan’s ranking in the UN’s e-governance development index, where Pakistan rose 14 points, marking it as one of only two Asian countries to progress from the middle to the high tier of digital e-governance. This advancement underscores the nation’s commitment to digitalization and technological development as catalysts for socio-economic prosperity.

Muhammad Yousuf Khan, Chairman of the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), expressed pride in the satellite’s role in advancing socio-economic development and boosting Pakistan’s stature in the global space industry. He encouraged local industries to engage in developing ecosystems around space-related activities.

The conference also highlighted PAKSAT-MM1’s crucial role in bridging the digital divide and fostering growth in underserved regions. With an operational lifespan of over 15 years, the satellite is set to provide high-speed broadband and other vital services, making significant strides toward a digitally connected Pakistan.
