Morocco launches “Décollage 2025” to digitize airports and boost tourism

Morocco is set to modernize its airports with the introduction of the “Décollage 2025” initiative, focusing on digital transformation to enhance the travel experience. Announced by Mohammed Abdeljalil, the Minister of Transport and Logistics, this strategy involves substantial investments to integrate digital technologies at key entry points across the country.

The National Airports Authority (ONDA) has dedicated a significant budget to hire technical experts for its Digital Factory unit, which will spearhead the digital projects. One of the major developments includes the installation of “e-gate” smart portals at Moroccan airports, utilizing biometric technology to facilitate quicker and more secure passage for travelers.

Rabat-Salé Airport’s new terminal, scheduled to open in 2025, will debut these advancements as a pilot project, with plans to expand them to other major hubs like Mohammed V and Marrakech-Menara Airports. Additionally, the “SMART AIRPORT” information system will be implemented to enhance real-time monitoring and operational efficiency.

These upgrades are crucial as Morocco prepares to host significant international events, including the next Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The digital enhancements aim to streamline operations, improve security, and offer a seamless travel experience, positioning Morocco as a leading tourist destination with state-of-the-art airport facilities.
