NTRA and NTI renew agreement to monitor electromagnetic radiation from cell towers

The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) and the National Telecommunication Institute (NTI) have renewed their agreement to periodically monitor electromagnetic radiation (EMR) emitted by cell towers. This ensures radiation levels remain within globally accepted limits, as outlined in a protocol signed by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), the Ministry of Health and Population, and the Ministry of Environment.

As part of MCIT’s efforts to enhance telecom infrastructure and mobile networks, the agreement focuses on public safety and environmental security. With the increasing number of cell towers, including base stations and small cells, the use of advanced technologies to measure EMR levels is mandated to meet international safety standards and promote technological and environmental sustainability.

The renewed agreement also aims to digitize the measurement system by automating procedures and securely storing reports using cloud computing, supporting the Digital Egypt strategy implemented by MCIT.

Experts and engineers from NTI, under NTRA’s supervision, will assess EMR levels of new and existing cell towers to ensure compliance with safety standards. Periodic assessments will be conducted to maintain ongoing adherence, reinforcing NTRA’s role in upholding technical quality in telecommunications services.
