Telenor participates in launch of Pakistan’s first ESaaS project

Telenor Pakistan announced its participation in Pakistan’s first low-carbon Energy Storage as a Service (ESaaS) project, marking a pivotal moment in the nation’s telecom and energy sectors. The project, led by Brillanz Group with support from key stakeholders like the Ministry of Climate Change, Bank of Punjab, and Saudi-Pak Investment Company, aims to significantly reduce the telecom sector’s carbon footprint.

Khurram Ashfaque, CEO of Telenor Pakistan, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustainability, emphasizing that this initiative is a major step towards reducing environmental impact while ensuring long-term operational sustainability. Awais Vohra, Telenor Pakistan’s Chief Technology Officer, highlighted the deployment of 25 MWh of battery infrastructure, which will reduce reliance on diesel generators by 1.1 million hours annually, setting a new industry standard.

Bilal Qureshi, Founder and CEO of Infralectric by Brillanz Group, noted that the telecom industry’s carbon footprint exceeds that of global aviation and stressed the importance of this project in revolutionizing how telecom infrastructure is powered. The project is expected to eliminate over 21 million liters of diesel consumption and save more than PKR 5 billion, while reducing the telecom sector’s carbon footprint by 8.33 kilotons annually—equivalent to planting nearly 295,000 trees each year.

This initiative aligns with Telenor Pakistan’s broader vision of integrating sustainability into its core business operations, setting a global benchmark for sustainable innovation.
