STATE-owned fixed telecommunications company, TelOne, is making strides in its (Fourth Generation) 4G LTE network expansion, with plans to have a nationwide network by the end of 2025.
The company has already completed deployments at 12 sites so far, including Harare, with plans underway for other major cities.
Completed deployments include Budiriro, Glen Norah, Mufakose and Chitungwiza’s Unit J, Hatfield, Boka, new Parliament building and the Harare Main Exchange, with the latter featuring advanced Massive MIMO antenna technology.
Beyond Harare, TelOne is set to roll out LTE in Bulawayo, Beitbridge, Gweru, Kwekwe, Mutare, Masvingo and Victoria Falls.
“This expansion is a significant milestone for the State-owned telecoms company, which has been working to upgrade its legacy copper infrastructure and better meet the growing demand for high-speed mobile data across the country.
“This is an important step forward in TelOne’s mission to bridge the digital divide and connect all Zimbabweans to fast, reliable internet.
“The 4G LTE network will empower communities with new opportunities for e-commerce, education and innovation,” TelOne Acting Commercial Director Maureen Chirambaguhwa said.
Once these remaining projects are completed, TelOne’s nationwide 4G footprint will be substantially expanded, providing high-speed mobile broadband access to a much larger segment of Zimbabwe’s population.
This is expected to have far-reaching economic and social benefits, supporting the country’s ongoing digital transformation.
Chirambaguhwa said the plan is to have a nationwide presence by the end of 2025, and this will be done in phases.
“This complements broadband access already being delivered through fibre, ADSL, and satellite in line with the company’s business model of a fixed mobile convergence network,” she said.
