Bahrain to host ITU Digital Skills Forum

Bahrain is set to host the esteemed International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Digital Skills Forum from September 17-19, under the auspices of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA). The forum aims to convene global leaders, policymakers, industry experts, and educators to discuss the pivotal role of digital skills in fostering sustainable development.

Philip Marnick, General Director of TRA, highlighted the nation’s commitment to digital advancement. “Bahrain is poised to spearhead a digital-first economic strategy, and hosting the ITU Digital Skills Forum is a prime reflection of our strategic national goals. This forum is a crucial platform for global experts to collaborate towards empowering individuals with essential digital skills,” stated Marnick.

The forum’s agenda is robust, covering vital topics such as narrowing the digital skills gap, the influence of emerging technologies on workforce capabilities, and the intertwined progression of green and digital transitions. Additionally, the event will address the necessity of digital security skills and provide insights into prevailing industry skills shortages. These discussions are designed to foster meaningful dialogue, share expertise, and expand professional networks.

This flagship gathering for ITU members and partners serves as a critical venue for addressing the challenges of digital skills enhancement and promoting widespread digital skills adoption. The event is open to a diverse group of participants, including representatives from government ministries, regulatory bodies, telecommunications firms, educational institutions, and various international and regional entities.
