Wingu and Gebeya launch ‘talent cloud solution’ for East Africa

East African carrier-neutral data centre operator Wingu Africa, and Gebeya, a pan-African company that specializes in SaaS-enabled custom talent cloud innovation, have announced the launch of what they call a groundbreaking ‘talent cloud solution’ aimed at developing human capital for the data centre industry in East Africa.

This collaboration aims to train and certify 1,000 young people in data centre infrastructure and technologies within the next year through what is described as a unique talent cloud platform. The initiative will focus on identifying, onboarding, and developing these individuals, ultimately creating a strong pool of skilled data centre technologists. Another aim is that at least 20% of this talent pool will be women.

After Phase One – onboarding 1,000 individuals and equipping them with data centre infrastructure and technology skills – Phase Two will focus on matching these developed talents with employment or consultancy opportunities in data centres.

In Phase Three the skilled talent, customers, and partners will bring their abilities to Wingu’s data centres and its ecosystem.

The partners claim that the launch of this talent cloud solution signifies a major advancement in building a skilled workforce for East Africa’s data centre industry. Amadou Daffe, CEO of Gebeya explains: “This talent cloud initiative will equip individuals with essential data centre skills and create sustainable employment opportunities that drive economic growth in the region.”

Wingu’s Djibouti Data Centre (DDC) is described as the first and only carrier-neutral data centre facility in East Africa with access to all major international fibre optic systems connecting Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia Pacific regions with Africa.
