Huawei, CRA launch eighth 'Seeds for the Future’ programme in Qatar

In collaboration with the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), Huawei has launched the eighth edition of the ‘Seeds for the Future’ programme in Qatar, which is part of Huawei’s ongoing commitment to supporting and developing the ICT skills of Qatari youth.

The programme is set to kick off the selection process for 10 elite Qatari university undergraduate students who will represent Qatar in the Middle East and Central Asia Seeds for the Future programme, set to be held in Uzbekistan from August 11 to 17.

The selected students will embark on an enriching journey to compete with young talents from 14 countries in the region, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE, Bahrain, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Oman, Uzbekistan, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Azerbaijan, and Kyrgyzstan.

This year’s edition promises to be even more impactful, with a rigorous selection process to identify the brightest minds from Qatar’s top universities. The chosen 10 students will embark on a unique journey to Uzbekistan, joining peers from across the Middle East and Central Asia for an intensive week-long programme. This programme will foster cross-cultural exchange, delve into cutting-edge technologies, and equip them to tackle real-world challenges through project work.

Additionally, the Tech4Good regional competition, now in its fourth year, will be held during the Seeds for the Future programme, empowering the participating students to innovate technological solutions that address social and environmental challenges and hence make a positive impact on their communities.

Engineer Ahmad Abdulla al-Muslemani, president of the CRA, expressed his continued support for the partnership with Huawei on this significant initiative, saying “Huawei’s ‘Seeds for the Future’ programme aligns with CRA’s commitment to empowering youth with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the ICT field, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. We are confident that our students will greatly benefit from this international event and will bring invaluable experiences back to Qatar.”

Rico Lin, president of Huawei Technologies Gulf Region, said: “Huawei is committed to investing in the development of young talent around the world, and we are proud to support advancing their skills through the ‘Seeds for the Future’ programme. We aim to inspire and cultivate the next generation of ICT leaders in Qatar and provide them with the skills and knowledge necessary to drive innovation and shape the country’s digital future.”

The application process for the Seeds for the Future programme is now open. Interested students are encouraged to apply. For more information on the programme, visit the Seeds for the Future’s official website.

The Seeds for the Future programme, Huawei’s flagship global CSR initiative, aims to nurture local ICT talent, enhance knowledge transfer, and foster a greater understanding of and interest in the ICT sector.

By offering participants a unique opportunity to gain insights into the latest technological trends and engage with industry experts, the programme plays a pivotal role in preparing the next generation of ICT leaders. Since its launch in 2008, the programme has enrolled more than 18,000 students from 141 countries. The programme has attracted over 300 elite students from various universities in Qatar since its launch in 2018.

Qatar hosted the first Middle East and Central Asia Seeds for the Future regional programme last year. The event brought together 175 students from prestigious universities across the Middle East and Central Asia, including 16 students from Qatar University, Hamad bin Khalifa University, Community College of Qatar, and the University of Doha for Science and Technology. The Qatari team demonstrated great achievements and secured second place in the event.
