BTRC, Sisimpur join forces to promote child internet safety

To foster a safer online environment for children, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has partnered with Sesame Workshop Bangladesh (SWB), the creators of the renowned children's educational program "Sisimpur".

The collaboration aims to raise awareness about safe internet usage among children and parents, emphasising its educational benefits.

Under the initiative, "Sisimpur" will focus on educating students and teachers from 100 government primary schools on the importance of safe internet practices, as part of BTRC's latest project, the Digitisation of Education in Government Primary Schools in Underserved Areas.

The endeavour is supported by the Safe Internet for Early Childhood Development project, funded by the Internet Society Foundation.

The partnership was formalised through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on Monday, April 1.

Lt Col SM Rezaul Rahman, director of Signals, Systems, and Services Division at BTRC, and Mohammad Shah Alam, managing director of SWB, represented their respective organisations during the signing ceremony. Brigadier General Mohammad Khalilur Rahman, director general of System and Services Division at BTRC, also graced the event with his presence.

As per the MoU, BTRC and SWB will collaborate to advocate for safe internet practices among children aged 3 to 8 years old and their communities in both urban and marginalised areas of Bangladesh. With the overarching goal of creating a Smart Bangladesh, this partnership is poised to engage children, teachers, and communities in promoting a safer online experience for all.
